Managing Police Discipline (MPD)

Category: Live Interactive Webinar ( 2 1/2 DAYS)

This two-and-a-half-day seminar is packed with how to manage discipline in a way that creates a well-disciplined agency-not a well punished agency. The following are topics you can expect to discuss with law enforcement experts from Randy Means & Associates. Randy Means, JD and his team will be covering the nuts and bolts of conducting an IA investigation.  The importance of due process in all internal investigations to include the application of Garrity. Brady and Giglio considerations will be discussed as well as how agency leadership should be seeking such a determination.  Investigations on use of forces, early warning systems that work and are aren’t driven by raw data without contextualization, and records retention and disclosure. The final piece of this dynamic and rich seminar is updates on current litigation and its application to your agency.  We look forward to spending 2 ½ days with you to discuss these remarkably important law enforcement issues.

Next Level Leadership Series- First Line Supervisors and Mid-Managers

Category: Live Interactive Webinar (1-3 DAYS)

(A Leadership Video Series is Also Available but it NOT a replication of live training programs)

First level leadership is the most difficult transition in law enforcement. With proper training and support a new leader is far more likely to integrate effective leadership principles and behaviors into their personal leadership model. Beginning a path that will determine their personal satisfaction, effectiveness, loyalty and organizational worth.

These first steps set their course and this workshop helps first-line supervisors and mid-managers acquire skills needed to maintain a mission-driven culture of accountability, high morale and proper performance. Negative culture and sometimes less-than-stellar organizational leadership is often responsible for professional slippage. Without clear guidance many first and second-line supervisors failed to meet leadership standards, assure proper accountability, properly protect their organization … do their jobs. Why? One cannot hit a behavioral target when one cannot see the target.

Strengthened policy plus committed leadership can reverse all that by needed course corrections. We expect first and second-line supervisors and mid-managers to play team-ball with their organizations. Individual compasses must be aligned with organizational leadership requirements. Good leaders must also be good followers. The path forward as a leader is true north. This workshop illuminates that path.

Next Level Leadership Series-Advanced Command Staff Training for Policy-Makers

Category: Live Interactive Webinar (1-3 DAYS)

(A Leadership Video Series is Also Available but it NOT a replication of live training programs)

Leadership styles can and will vary from leader to leader but adherence to certain key principles cannot. Leaders must put employees on clear notice of organizational standards. Those standards must then be consistently enforced. Disciplinary sanctions must be consistent and proportionate.  In certain key respects, supervision cannot vary from supervisor to supervisor; overarching consistency must be maintained from work group to work group. This requires a systemic approach to what historically was left to individual supervisory and managerial discretion. The program shows the need for organizational solutions to organizational problems. It reminds senior leadership – the “big picture” people – of the vital need still to mind the store and keep close watch on the “little” things.  If you take care of problems while they’re small, you don’t get a lot of big problems. Program theme: Finding True North.
